School Store2

Once again…We’re happy to let everyone know, our school store is now up and running. And, we’ll have samples ready to go for Back to School Night…Order away at tbdelementary.itemorder.com.

  • During drop-off, students can enter through either one of the school’s front doors. Please remember to pull your car “all the way up” before stopping.
  • At this point in the year, we believe all students are familiar with our drop-off procedures and where they should be prior to homeroom. That being said, unless it’s absolutely necessary, we kindly ask for parents to refrain from coming into the building in the morning (e.g., accompanying kindergarten or first grade students into the all-purpose room).
  • Our first Lockdown Drill is Monday, September 24 at 10:00 am. For parents (especially those of kindergarten students), please feel free to discuss the drill ahead of time with your children. (And we will do the same.)
  • Boxtops Collection is Wednesday, September 26.
  • We’ll see everyone on Thursday night!

LAUNCHPAD

Currently, students are being introduced to “The LAUNCHPAD” at TBD. The LAUNCHPAD is a classroom designed and facilitated by Mrs. Gambuti that will delve into STEAM/Makerspace and Genius Hour activities. The LAUNCH program is based on design thinking, which is a process for creative problem solving. (Please click on this link to read more: What is Design Thinking?) The LAUNCH program follows the LAUNCH Cycle (see below), created by A.J. Juliani and John Spencer.

The LAUNCH Cycle:

L – Look, listen and learn
A – Ask tons of questions
U – Understand the problem
N – Navigate ideas (brainstorm)
C – CREATE!
H – Highlight what’s working and what isn’t

Please watch this short video to hear John Spencer describe each phase: The LAUNCH Cycle.

Look for posts on Instagram, #tbdlaunchpadrocks, to see the program in action! Also, please visit The LAUNCHPAD and Mrs. Gambuti on Back-to-School-Night, September 27.

From the PTO

If you haven’t already, please log into the PTO website to register for the PTO, sign up for pizza lunch (which starts September 24) and order your child a newly redesigned spirit shirt. Only PTO members will receive upcoming information about Fall Clubs and events. We also hope you will join us for our first general meeting on September 11 at 7:00 pm in the media center at CDW.

  • The kindergarten, first, and second grade students enjoyed a lively visit from author Michael Ian Black and illustrator Debbie Ridpath Ohi. Any books ordered will be given to students by next Tuesday at the latest. (The author and illustrator had many visits today and were doing the signing after all visit were done.) Thank you for your understanding and support!

Students should dress neatly for this very special evening.
